“Change the game. Don’t let the game change you.”
I know Macklemore wasn’t talking about taking care of your grandma, but I’m in the trenches, and I think it applies. Instead of letting her do crazy stuff and getting mad about it, I’m playing the game differently. Staying a step ahead. Dividing and conquering. Whatever it takes to extend her life — but not at the expense of my own sanity.
I hope others will read my posts and laugh — maybe even rethink their game plan for dealing with the elderly people in their lives. Of course you should always love and care for them, but when it comes to how you accomplish that, it’s all fair game.
Update
After writing this blog for a month, I’ve expanded on my blogging philosophy a little to give people a better idea why they should bother reading.
I give you tons of credit just for caring for your grandma.
Thank you. I know I make mistakes, but I do love her and I don’t want her to live somewhere she can’t have her creature comforts or her beloved Fluffy. Hope is the thing with feathers …
Indeed it is…
So you know I think you’re kind of awesome so I nominated you for an award …

I’m happy to find someone to commiserate with, in honesty. I’ll be following you.
Are you taking care of a parent or grandparent? If so, you’re exactly the reason I started this blog. Hope you find it helpful if for no other reason you know someone else is struggling with the same issues. Thanks for following me.
Nice reference ;0)
Thanks! I was listening to Macklemore nonstop when I started my blog. Brilliant lyrics in my opinion. 🙂
Abs agreed.
I ask you — who else quotes Macklemore in a blog about dementia? 🙂
